What We’re Doing…This Week

It’s easy, right now, to focus on all of the things that we are missing.

I miss my morning workouts and comradery and laughs at the gym. I miss hugging my friends and going out to lunch on Saturdays.

It’s easy to focus on what is missing. But what is in abundance?

Time. Many of us have an abundance of time.

How can we use this time to become better than we’ve ever been?

To be better, I will reflect on what I learn each week.

To help others better, I will share my learning.

Last week, I learned that in times like this, our connection to our purpose keeps us most grounded. But how exactly do we do this?

I also learned that there is a very real tension between wanting to be productive and knowing that expecting 100% from ourselves every day is not very realistic.

I’m going to take it a week at a time. Each week, I’m going to commit to being or doing one thing that will make me feel good about my week and connect me to my purpose. I will focus on my achievement, rather than lamenting over all of the things that I could have/should have done.

This week, I commit to being more patient with my kids. Even if they turn on Netflix at an extremely high volume while I’m in the next room on a Zoom call. Even if they roll their eyes when I ask about schoolwork or leave an empty box of Cheez-Its on the couch.

At the end of the week, I’ll celebrate this accomplishment. A little more patience, in the long run, makes me better.

What’s your one thing for this week?
