Swinging on a Star

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
–Bing Crosby

I am an old Christmas movie junkie. Black and white, the 1940s, the sappier, the better. Recently, while watching “Going My Way,” I thought of my dad, who would play the piano and sing “Swinging on a Star” to me as a child.

The words seem especially applicable for this time of year, as we reflect on the accomplishments and lessons learned in 2019 and think about setting goals for 2020. I tend to default to pragmatism. Incremental growth. Setting goals to set direction.

All of this is good stuff. However, my mentor recently challenged me to “big, hairy, audacious goals” for 2020 (also called a BHAG). Dig deep, stretch myself, and really consider what might be possible. Perhaps the possibilities are beyond anything that I have considered.

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swinging on a star

What is possible for you in 2020? What is your big, hairy, audacious goal? You too can swing on a star.

I’d love to help you get there. Contact me to work together!
